Kirk has worked as a clinical social worker in the areas of foster-care, child welfare, juvenile justice, investigations and community mental health.
He attended the University of California, Riverside for his bachelors in psychology and received his masters in social work from Howard University . He further attained a masters from American University in international human rights and his juris doctorate from Valparaiso University. He enjoys choral and classical music, exercising, hiking, cooking and spending time with family in the states and Jamaica.
